The hydraulic pressure servo control device has been a basic configuration for the AGC(automatic gauge control) of the strip rolling mill. With the maturity of the hydraulic servo technology, it is essential to develop a low-cost and high-performance AGC controller, which has practical significance for the replacement of the expensive and troublesomely maintained abroad controller. Based on previous research by our research group, this paper does some improvement and modification of the hardware circuit, supplements a lot of software, does the simulation in laboratory and experiment at the test site.According to the problems in the live experiment, some improvements of the hardware circuit and software function are made, which mainly includes: solving the drive capacity of digital output and the rapidity of the analog acquisition, improving the signal precision of the analog output, calibrating the acquisition accuracy of the live displacement sensor, optimizing the communication mode between the upper and lower machine, perfecting the upper parameters interface.Some software is supplemented based on the improvements above. According to the request of software programming specification, the modular design of all the interface software is made; acquisition module and power-down save module of different types of displacement sensor are programmed; many process control modules such as: Pressing on, Position loop, Pressure loop, previewed control of the thickness, monitoring control of the thickness, coding, decoding and so on are increased. Finally, the live experiment of the improved microcomputer controller is made in the workshop of “National Engineering Research Center for Equipment and Technology of Cold Strip”.Single neuron PID control algorithm is applied in inner loop of position in the AGC gauge system of the strip rolling mill. Since the plastic stiffness parameter of rolled piece changes on a wide range in the cold rolling process, the controlled object model of position loop will have great change. While using single neuron PID control algorithm which is self-learning, the controller can adapt to the change of the controlled object model and adjust real-time parameters online better. The simulation results show the advantages of single neuron PID control algorithm.
