Waste treatment plant, as one of the essential facilities in each city, has drawn the residents’ concerns at the very beginning. With so many people crowded in so limited lands, to find new waste treatment plant site is really a serious issue in Shenzhen. Besides, most of constructed waste treatment plants in early years have run out of capacity. The overloading of these plants deteriorated local air condition and also raised attention of the public. Residents who live nearby can be affected more, and their air satisfaction may be declined. At present, several topics, such as health hazards effect and environment pollution problems caused by waste treatment plants and post-closure waste treatment plants handle, have been full studied in literature. However, not many researches have been done on residents’ air quality satisfaction which is affected by waste treatment plants. This paper explored the effect of waste treatment plants on residents’ air quality satisfaction when those who are living near the waste treatment plants have different income levels and family demographics. Firstly I identify waste treatment plant factors, household economic factors and demographic factors by reading literature. Then I identify the model by empirical research methods. This dissertation collects a total of 292 valid questionnaires from Shenzhen residents. This dissertation establishes the econometric models and uses STATA to do regression analysis. Firstly, the results find that distance, salary and so on would have a positive impact on residents’ air quality satisfaction; quantity, family with kids and so on would have a negative impact on residents’ air quality satisfaction. When the quantity adds to a certain amount, the increase of distance would not significantly influence residents’ air quality satisfaction. Secondly, in household economic factors and demographic factors, income and presence of kids can significantly affect residents’ air quality. Families with kids are more sensitive to air quality. Finally, this dissertation proposes policy recommendations for government reference.
