The construction and application of pipeline GIS has become more deepen and spread, as well as the development of geographic information system’s technology and the rising needs of the informational management of the urban underground pipeline. As the bridge between pipeline specifications and quantitative expression of pipeline spatial knowledge, many researchers and GIS companies think that pipeline spatial knowledge has played an important role in the construction of a pipeline data model and spatial analysis and data validation. But make a close analysis in the existing pipeline GIS applications and knowledge representation, there is the lack of the scalability and interactivity of pipeline spatial knowledge base, which leads it can’t to be effectively shared and reused. Therefore, how to effectively share and reuse these pipelines spatial knowledge becomes an urgent problem.For the need of pipeline knowledge sharing, this thesis expresses the knowledge by ontology-based method, build the knowledge base by Protege, and make ontology reasoning to use the knowledge base. To sum up, this thesis includes the following main points:Firstly, this thesis researches the urban underground pipeline elements model, geometric model and spatial relationship model, defines the urban underground pipeline geographic semantic ontology model, study how to create the geographic ontology by Protege and express it by OWL. Based on the geographical ontology, this thesis expands the SWRL Built-in and study how to express the rules of the urban underground pipeline’s construction rationality by SWRL.Secondly, this thesis study the architecture and storage of the urban underground pipeline ontology knowledge base,study how to inspect the urban underground pipeline geographic ontology. With urban underground pipeline and construction of geographic ontology reasonable rules, this thesis study how to use Protege OWL API and Jess to reason the urban underground pipeline’s construction rationality.
