The paper firstly reviews the history and current status of non-linearfinite element method (FEM), and sketches the different non-linear basiccalculation methods of nonlinearity of material, geometric and contact.Then rules of stress distribution between contact planes under linearstatus is achieved from analytical solution of it. By combination ofnumerical simulation and experiment research, laws of stress distributionof connections and their surrounding area together with defects of theorigin design of the project are achieved, based on status of stressdistribution between connections and their surrounding area whencylindrical shell is bending in real project. Takingcoupling calculation ofnonlinearity of contact, material and geometry into account in thenumerical simulation for the real project, the results of it generally fitsthat of the experiment. Finally, suggestion on improvement of design ofcylindrical shell connection is given based on the result, in order that theshell can bear the load of actual requirement of the project.
