As people living standard is increasing with each passing day, the pace of modern life continuesto accelerate and radius of the city gradually is enlarged. Bicycle can no longer satisfy people’s needs,so we need an energy saving convenient riding tool. This riding tool also must satisfy the clean,intelligent, environmental protection requirements, electric bicycles (E-bikes) arise at the historicmoment, it can improve the air quality and reduce the energy (mineral, oil, etc.) dependence, and canimprove our energy efficiency.In order to meet customers for electric bicycle performance requirements, as electric bicyclesheart drive, the motor must have the following characteristics: high efficiency, large starting torque,high speed, wide range of speed regulation, small volume and light weight. And the switchedreluctance motor(SRM) just meets the above characteristics, so the switched reluctance motor usedfor electric bicycle drive motor is a worthwhile scheme.In this paper, according to the user’s demands, it suggests the SRM whose rated power is350W,rated speed is400rpm. It addresses the following events: plant structure, controller and the mainpower circuit. The paper is to offer a design basis for in-wheel switched reluctance motor employed inelectric bicycle hub motor.First of all, this paper put forward three phase18/24and36/24two kinds of switch reluctancemotor structures. Then, a better motor structure is selected by the comparion of starting torque,overload, efficiency of rated operating point and efficiency with the help of finite element analysis.Secondly, for the application, it selects the asymmetric half bridge as the main circuit topology. Thedynamics model based on MATLAB/Sumlink nonlinearity inductance model and Ansoft finiteelement model is built.We contrast phase current and output torque. Accordingly, voltage PWM speedcontrol strategy which is appropriate for the experiment is educed. Finally, the system is implementedby digital control chip dsPIC30f3011. The No-Load and Load test on the system is examed. It can beconcluded that the18/24structure switched reluctance motor drive system has good steady speedperformance, and can be widely used in electric bicycles.
