It is believed that the renewable energy generating system is the cure of energy crisis,environmental pollution and increasing Electricity demanding. The heat, which can be affordedwidely and diversely, has a promising future as a source to establish distributed generation by meansof heat-electricity convertor or combined heat and power system. Among them, stirling engine,as anexternal combustion engine, has advantages that internal-combustion engine or gas turbine does nothave,like wide acceptance of heat source, zero pollution out and low noises. However, the strategy ofthe power generating system should meet the characteristics of stirling engine like low speed of powermodulation, soft external characteristics and poor capability of self-starting.In order to meet the requirements, this paper delivers the detailed system control strategy forboth grid-connected or off-grid power generating system based on stirling engine and squirrel-cageinduction generator, with the analytical consideration of the power end(stirling characteristics and slipfrequency control of IG), The charge/discharge characteristics of batteries and the control limitation ofInverter.All the hardware designs result as a control cabinet containing Power circuit, BidirectionalDC-DC converter and the control system. The software parts are also finished with both architecturaldesign and programming, with the achievement of485SCI based on MODBUS communicatingprotocol for internal communication of the system.To validate the control strategy, the whole generating system is built for50kW capability withstirling engine, IG and other components with gas as the heat source. By the tests on Starting process,external power charge and power regulation, the control aim is achieved.Research results show that, the designed control strategy is suitable for the stirling-IG powergenerating system and it has the potential to gain more interests.
