There is a growing demand in fixed and rotary wing aircraft for compact, high bandwidthactuation systems that can be distributed across the airframe. Hybrid hydraulic actuators that usesmart materials as the driving element provide an effective way to implement this strategy. Therefore,we carried out the applied research on giant magnetostrictive pump for Electro-Hydraulic actuator.First of all,in terms of structure, a hybrid pump for Electro-Hydraulic actuator was developedusing magnetostrictive material as the driving element, which was based on mechanism of giantmagnetostrictive material and working principle of positive displacement hydraulic pump. Theworking principles of giant magnetostrictive pump and actuator were more detailedly described. Anew cantilever-type of passive check valve was designed when a variety of check valves clamped onthe smart material driven pumps was detailedly analyzed, which reduced the difficulty of processingand assembly. Second, in terms of pump actuation, the magnetic circuit was modeled and then thedynamic characteristics of magnetic field was gained by simulation and experiment, which provided abasis for the design and optimization of the magnetic field of GMP. Again, the Mathematic modelbased on the structure and working principle of giant magnetostrictive pump was modeled and thenthe numerical simulation of the Mathematic model of giant magnetostrictive pump was performed byMatlab/simulink. The relationship between the pump flow rates and drive current, frequency and otherparameters was analyzed by simulation. The fluid-structure-interaction module in ComsolMultiphysics was used for simulating the flow behavior of simplified model of passive check valve.The influence of different pressure differences, different working fluid, different height and materialsof reed valve on the valve was analyzed by the results of simulation, and then the relevant laws weregained. Finally, in terms of experiment studying, the prototype of giant magnetostrictive pump wasdeveloped and then test system was built for studying output characteristics of pump. The testmaximum no-load flow rates were180ml/min and maximal output block pressures were more than100kPa.
