Steel-polyurethane sandwich plate is composed of two steel face plates and polyurethanecore layer, the elastomer core material and the steel plate surface firmly bonded to form a newcomposite structure. This system has been used in abroad for new bridge deck, bridge deckreplacement and repair of bridge deck reinforcement and other applications. But thesteel-polyurethane orthotropic sandwich structure bridge deck not been used in domestic, andno corresponding design specifications and standards. In the paper, based on modelexperiment, expand stress distribution and stability performance of steel-polyurethanesandwich structure bridge deck, to further reveal some mechanical characteristics and stabilityproperties of steel-polyurethane sandwich structure bridge deck in the country to providereliable evidence.Overseas and domestic research status and application status in bridge engineering ofsandwich plate structure are introduced. The basic computation theory of orthotropic plate andsandwich plate are analyzed, as well as the basic theory of stability properties are introduced.Model tests carried out, based on the similar principle and some project cases to makeexperimental investigation. Through comparative analysis of sandwich panels with ordinarysteel plate experimental values to verify the sandwich plate is superior to single steel plate insome mechanical performance such as stress distribution, strength and stiffness. And theresult, after experimental values compared with the finite element results, shows that theresults of finite element analysis are accurate, and the force law and stress distribution ofsteel-polyurethane sandwich plate structure under partial wheel load action. At the same time,the paper studied the buckling stability under partial wheel load and axial compression loadaction.Basing on the model experiment, the paper further discussed the effects to bucklingstability of sandwich plates with changing some parameters such as the thickness of the corelayer and steel plates, stiffening rib spacing. The result shows that those parameters have greatinfluence on sandwich plate buckling stability. What’s more, the buckling load and maxmunstress distribution will vary with the change of those parameters.
