Energy, now, is everywhere in all aspects of people’s lives. It seems more significant tosay energy utilization than energy saving, so the ideas to save our limited energy should alsobe found in subtle aspects. Fluorescent lighting system, as an indispensable role of the dailylives, is also facing the challenge of energy. From the traditional fluorescent lamp withinductive ballast to the high-efficient inductive ballast then electronic ballast, every step is toachieve the same goal——Energy-saving. Though we have acquired satisfactory results, thecost is too high.In this thesis, the technology of Magnetic Energy Recovery Switch (MERS) is applied tochange the circuit topology in its power input side, without changing the main circuittopology of the fluorescent. It’s equivalent to using a small capacitor, which MERS circuit isequivalent to a continuously variable capacitor, to share the voltage of the power in the circuitof the electronic ballasts fluorescent lamp in order to reduce the voltage from the fluorescentlamp side, and ultimately save energy by adjust the brightness of the lamp, and as a method ofthe reactive power compensation for the electromagnetic ballast fluorescent lamp in order toimprove the power factor of the whole circuit. It has the advantages of simple control, lowercost, less loss and so on.Firstly, as the basic theory of the Energy-saving technology for the fluorescent lamp, theprinciple and the control mode of the MERS has been introduced. Secondly, in order to getthe parameters of each component, a circuit model with electronic ballast fluorescent lampand electromagnetic ballast fluorescent lamp is established, and with the simulation analysisin the PSIM, the reliability of the actual circuit is verified. After making the MERS circuit foreach electronic ballast and electromagnetic ballast fluorescent lamp, experimental system nowhas been finished. Finally, by adding the MERS circuit into the fluorescent lamp, the entiredesign scheme is confirmed to have good effect of energy saving.
