Residential green space is the most close to the green space system with people in the city, is also an important part of City Greenbelt System. Nowadays, along withthe social development and the urbanization process, the ecological environment is getting worsening. So, the residential area of greenspace landscape system requirements to further improve. The green space system in the residential area can not only beautify the environment, improve the ecological microclimate, enrich people’s life, but alsocan be used as arefuge in site. Therefore, the research has important ecological significanceand social benefit.According to the "code for design of civil buildings", it divides different Buildingclimate zone in China, they respectively includes areas with hot summer and cold winter, cold areas, temperate areas, cold areas and areas with hot summer and warm winter, etc. However, the City residential area planning and design standards in China has no detailed requirements for differentclimate zones for the residential landscape green space system planning andmonographs for research the cold area residential green space planning areless. Thus, in this article, through analyses the residential area of different class scale of xi ’an city which is the typical in cold region, research on the residential green space landscape system of overall planning, landscape structure, plant selection, such as diversity research, adhere to people’s demand as the center, follow based on visual and psychological feeling of residents, in line with the design concept ofhumanity and ecology by means of art and technology shaping modern green space landscape system, for the cultural connotation and aesthetic style and features of each level to meet the needs of people with modern residential environment.The first chapter of this paper, according to the context of urbanization, extensivecollection of relevant data of domestic and foreign residential green space landscapesystem, on the basis of predecessors’ theory to clarify the purpose of the research, thesignificance of the research, the object of the research, defining scope of the researchand method of the research. The second chapter, based on the current our country city residential area green space landscape system design planning method to research the current situation and problems, discusses the future development direction; The thirdchapter, research as the main arguments, focus on five residential areas in different class and size of xi ’an, study the design method of residential area landscape green space system structure, planning, put forward the existing problems, and finally summarizes the landscape green space system design method of the residential area in Xi’an.The fourth chapter in the research is the core chapter, detailed analyses the design method of residential green space landscape system in the cold areas, put forward the right way to the landscape structure, plant selection. Chapter five outlooks the green space landscape system of the residential area in the cold areas in our country, summarizes the development direction of the future.The research will carry out a comprehensive research in other disciplines of human engineering, environmental psychology, city planning and so on. It will provides so me new design methods and ideas for the planning and design of green space landscape system in residential area, analysis from various perspectives for the residential area green space landscape system.
