Along with the rapid development and unceasing improvement of the national highwaynetwork of China, the technology of road condition survey also badly needs an improvement.The roughness and texture depth of road surface are important factors which affect thecomfort of travel vehicle and the road security, and they are also important assessmentindexes in road construction and maintenance quality management, so it is an urgent task todesign high-speed, high precision and simple operation detection equipments for theroughness and texture depth. Therefore, the design and researches on detection system forvehicle bearing road roughness and texture depth are implemented on in this paper.Through consulting amount of documents and materials, we have a certain understandingon the current situation about the detection technology of the road roughness and texturedepth at home and abroad, and have a study on the fundamental principle of the detectiontechnology. At last, we design a vehicle bearing detection system for the roughness andtexture depth of road surface based on one laser displacement sensor and two accelerationsensors. The research contents are as follows:Firstly, the current development and direction of road roughness and texture depth testingtechnology at home and abroad are presented. Through the research and analysis of the roadroughness and texture depth assessment indexes, the paper make a detail introduction aboutthe calculation model and computing method of the International Roughness Index (IRI).Finally, the paper chooses the International Roughness Index (IRI) and the Mean ProfileDepth (MPD) as the output specification of the system, and the embody investigation worksare carried out around the two assessment indexes.Secondly, the paper makes a further study on the operating principle of the sensors wemay use. It also determines the system requirements of the sensors, data acquisition cards andindustrial personal computers. Eventually we choose the devices which satisfy the designrequirements and determine the way to install all the devices. Then we make a study on thealgorithm of the software, this work involves the double integral and the DC removal of theacceleration signal, the filters of the acceleration signal and the laser signal. Eventually, we get the software done.At last, the calibration and road experiments are done for the system, the calibrationexperiments are done for the laser sensors, accelerometer sensors and incremental rotaryencoder in order to correct the errors of the sensors. Finally, three experiments areimplemented on the outdoor road, including:1) correcting analysis with the standardinstrumentation,2) repeatability experiment,3) the influence of the vehicle speed onexperimental results. In summary, the experimental results show us that the road roughnessand texture depth detection system is stable, reliable and can be used in road detection.
