As a new kind of reinforced material for concrete, fibers have beenapplied widely in the field of construction gradually since1970s,represented by steel fibers and synthetic fibers. Fibers can not only improveconcrete’s tensile strength and toughness by restraining cracks, but also savetime and cost in the practical engineering. Bamboo is a low-cost andenvironment-friendly natural fiber with excellent tensile properties anddeformation ability, which leads to a prospect of being used as a concretereinforced material to get a win-win situation in both function and economy.Based on the existed researches, this paper studied the anti-cracking andstrengthening mechanism of bamboo fiber reinforced concrete by acomprehensive way of experiments, numerical simulation, and mechanismresearch of load resistance. Compared with steel fiber reinforce concrete testresult, an optimal way to apply bamboo fiber in concrete reinforcement wasdiscussed, as a reference in further practical use.In this paper, single and hybrid fiber reinforced concrete werefabricated by bamboo fibers of different length and steel fiber to takecompressive, split and bending experiments. The results showed thatbamboo fibers can obviously improve split tensile and bending toughness.The possibility of replacing part of steel fiber with bamboo fiber in the steelfiber reinforced concrete was also discussed with experiment ofbamboo-steel hybrid fibers concrete. ANSYS numerical simulation wasused to analyze mechanical properties of compressive, split and bending offiber reinforced concrete and the result was compared with that in theexperiments. Then, the model of load resistance and fiber reinforcement mechanism were discussed based on the experimental and numericalanalysis. Also, calculation and evaluation formulas about bamboo fiberconcrete mechanical properties were suggested. Finally, combing with theweakened bamboo fiber phenomenon in the experiment, the durability ofbamboo fiber reinforced concrete was analyzed.
