Hydrodynamic planetary gear is a new type of high-power hydro-mechanicalvariable-speed transmission device, which has been widely used all over the worldbecause of its advantages, such as high efficiency, stable performance, strongadaptability, long service life and so on. With the gradual development of China’seconomy and the deepening of modernization and industrialization, more and more suchkind of devices have been applied in sectors of energy, power, petrochemical, etc.. Thispaper has analyzed the basic operating principle of hydrodynamic planetary gear,studied the interaction relationship between the main structural parameters and itstransmission performance, proposed a set of design5,500kW hydraulic planetary geartransmission scheme based on some examples of parameters; and mainly studied thedesign and checking calculations of the core control-transmission parts—guide vanesadjustable torque converter. It has a certain significance to promote the localizationprocess of hydrodynamic planetary gear.Firstly, based the adjustable guide vane torque converter model—LB46, thispaper used a similar theory to design and calculate the geometrical structure parametersof the torque converter of rated power5.5MW hydrodynamic planetary gear, anddeduced the relationship of the geometry parameters of adjustable guide wheel with theguide vane’s opening angle. It also calculated the static output characteristics of theguide vanes torque converter at different degrees based on the one dimensional flowtheory, and then verify whether the torque converter can meet the performancerequirements of the planetary gear or not by using the results to match the features ofload split through planets row. Meanwhile, it examined the validity of the designparameters and calculation models through comparative analysis of dimensionlessparameters calculated by one dimensional flow theory and the dimensionless parameterscalculated by the test results of type torque converter LB46. This paper also analyzedthe error of the calculated characteristics and experimental values, distribution andinfluence factors, investigated ways to reduce the computational model error.And then, through analyzing the speed principle of hydrodynamic planetary gear,this paper,based on the combination of velocity vector superposition principle and thelaw of conservation of energy, discussed the influence of the main structural parametersto the speed performance of hydrodynamic planetary gear planetary gear, and identifiedthe design principles of the main parameters of the planetary gear. then, according tothe example of the main structural parameters required, this article designed itsparameters, and analyzed the transmission ratio, the relationship between the torque,transmission efficiency and other design static characteristics.Axial force of hydraulic components is the most important cause that influences the service life. The axial force of the torque converter and its cycle diameter to thepower of four. Therefore, the axial force of the torque converter which designed bysimilar theory must be calculated and checked. This paper calculated and analyzed theaxial force of the designed torque converter at different guide vane and in variousconditions, it also discussed the variation of axial force influenced by different factors,such as supply pressure, sealing performance etc. Finally a number of scheme weremade to balance axial force against these factors.
