With the development of science, technology and civil aviation, more and morepeople are traveling by airliners for it can provide high-speed and efficient publictransport services. However, the current airliner cabin environment is not ideal, theproblems of occupant safety, health and comfort happen occasionally. It is importantto better understanding the reasonableness of current cabin air distribution and createa safe, healthy and comfortable airliner cabin environment, then improve the design ofairline ventilation system and guarantee the safety, health and comfort of passengersand crew. This research is affiliated with the sub-project “Experimental evaluation criteriafor cabin air quality and thermal comfort” of National Basic Research Program ofChina (973Program)—“Research of key scientific problems in the control ofairliner cabin air environment”. The purpose of this study is to design and build acabin mockup experiment platform with high reliability, high stability, dynamicboundary conditions and can make full use of PIV technique to get a comprehensiveresearch of instantaneous flow field in cabin and through experiment to get the data ofair flow characteristics. Furthermore through the analysis of experiment data toprovide theory basis for building and improving the design parameters of cabinenvironment and provide reference for the design of healthy, comfortable,energy-saving airliner ventilation system and the development of home-make airliner. This paper firstly reviews the current research situation of airliner cabinenvironment at home and abroad, has analyzed the existing problems in the currentstudies and the necessity of construct7-rows cabin mockup experiment platform.Secondly, according to the cabin structure of B737-200, designing and building the7-rows cabin mockup follow1:1size. By the calculation of air-conditioning load, theselection of equipment and the design of automatic control system, achieving theexperiment platform meet the standard requirement of ventilation airflow of differentcountries, with reliable and stable thermal boundary conditions and really simulate theinner surface temperature of aircraft during cruise flight. Finally, related experimentalresearch was conducted to verify the reliability and stability of the system and obtainthe airflow rate, local air age, velocity boundary condition, thermal boundary condition, temperature field and flow field of the cabin mockup under different airdistribution system by using infrared gas analyzer, ultrasonic anemometer, infraredcamera and thermocouple measurement system. It found that the side and ceiling supply system has the best ventilationeffectiveness and the ceiling supply system the worst by comparison analysis of thethree kinds of mixing ventilation systems (side supply, ceiling supply, side and ceilingsupply). Besides, the displacement ventilation system can have a lower airflow ratethan the mixing ventilation systems due to the relatively high ventilation efficiency.Through comparison analysis of the temperature distribution, velocity distribution,PD due to vertical air temperature different, DR due to draft and energy utilizationefficiency, the side and ceiling supply system has the best air distribution performancein the three kinds of mixing ventilation systems. While displacement ventilationsystem although has high ventilation efficiency and energy utilization efficiency butlead to temperature stratification obviously and the temperature distribution is beyondthe requirement of standards, its applicability in the cabin needs further research.
