Energy conservation and emissions reduction, reducing energy consumption is animportant development direction of world automobile industry, automotive lightweightingis good complied with the trend, using of lightweight materials that is an effective and fastmethods to make the Automotive lightweighting come true, automotive transmission partswhich reduce the weight is the most significant effect for automotive lightweighting role, now most of the car wheels still use steel or aluminum alloy as its production materials, compared with these materials, magnesium alloys have the advantages of small density, high strength, good thermal conductivity, easy to machining, good absorption for impactand vibration, and many other advantages, it is in line with the auto lightweight materialneeded, the finite element method as a kind of important method in modern engineeringanalysis and provides a strong guarantee for the wheels related mechanics analysis.Firstly, this paper introduces the finite element method and the basic theory of fatigueanalysis, Secondly, designing a magnesium alloy wheels which depends on the relevantnational standards and industry specification, and by using3D software Solidworks3Dentity modeling of the wheel, according to the regulations of the state of the fatigue testrequirements, the application of ANSYS Workbench on the stress analysis and the bendingfatigue life prediction, the fatigue life of the wheel has been predicted based on thenominal stress method and stress analysis results, and the results predicted werecompared with the results through the analysis of the software, the results show that thepredicted results meet the test requirements, both the theoretical prediction results moreconservative, Finally, two different conditions of modal analysis were carried out on thewheel, and found that the prestress and constraints on its has important effects on thenatural frequencies and corresponding vibration mode, at the same time the quality and themoment of inertia of the wheels was calculated, and compared the analysis results with thealuminum alloy wheel. The analysis results show that the joint use of CAD and CAE technology to thedesign of the wheel and the related analysis and calculation to provide a set of feasible andreliable calculation process, and the results also indicated that the magnesium alloy is applied to the wheels on the feasibility and superiority.
