As the complicated lifeline engineering, the investment in transmission lines is hugeand far-reaching. Reasonable and reliable design is the effective protection to ensure thesafe operation of transmission lines.So it has important engineering significance toassess the reliability of the current design code systematically and accurately.As is well-known, tower structure design can be seen as creative activities based onthe current design code by engineering designer. Apparently, the reliability of the towersis related to both the current design code and the designer’s design habits.Based on the above consideration, this article main research work is as follows:(1)The reliability of design expression of axial tension structure, axial compressionstructure, eccentric compression structure and two-way flexural structure from‘Technical Regulation of design for tower and pole structures of overhead transmissionline’(DL/T5154-2002) was researched. The statistical parameters of elements of towerof transmission line were derived and the influence law of various design parameterswas derived;(2)Considering the influence of wind speed, cofficient for importance of structureand wind load return period, the fine reliability evaluation of the current design codedesign expression was conducted. The influence law of above factors on the reliabilityindex was derived and reliability calibration of tower elements which were designedbased on the current design code were conducted;(3)To research the reliability of tower structures designed based on the currentdesign code and compare it with the reliability of design specification expressions, themodels of a straight tower structure and an anglet tower structure were established byfinite element analysis software. And the reliability of tower structural members wascalculated. It is indicated that the reliability of tower structural members is higher thanthe reliability of the current design code.
