Based on the requirements of EV on the powertrain, this paper proposes the scheme of dual-motorpowertrain based on dual-planetary transmission to overcome the limitations of single-motorpowertrain on meeting vehicle acceleration and top-speed requirements at the same time.On the basis of analysing the structure and principle of single-planetary and dual-planetarytransmission, this paper uses the equivalent lever diagram to analyse the speed and torquecharacteristics of planetary transmission, and derives the dynamics and kinematics equations. Inaddition, this paper analyses the possible operating modes of the dual-motor powertrain, anddemonstrates the feasibility of braking energy regeneration. The critical powertrain components motor and battery are selected, and vehicle dynamicperformances are worked out. Then, the parameters of the powertrain components are matched.Comparing its possible operating modes, this paper selects the vehicle low-speed and high-speedoperating mode. Through the design of torque control strategy, models of the major components ofthe dual-motor powertrain are established and simulated on Matlab/Simulink software platform. This paper also introduces the V-Mode system control development process, and establishes thedual-motor powertrain bench. To verify the accuracy and reliability of the control strategy,MotoHawk rapid prototyping platform and CAN bus development tool CANoe are used to carryon the test and analyse the experimental data.
