To reduce the vibration of the magnetic bearing rotor system, a squirrel cage-metal rubberdamper was designed. Magnetic bearing rotor system has small range of stiffness and damping, and soits vibration suppression ability is poor. Squirrel cage-metal rubber damper can provide additionalstiffness and damping, use it to support magnetic bearing rotor system can effectively improve thevibration suppression ability of the system. The main contents are summarized as follows:First, the damping mechanism of the metal rubber (MR) was analyzed. Based on the originalexperimental setup with magnetic bearing and the need of the system dynamic performance, thecomponent parts of the damper were designed and machined. Then, the modal and imbalance response analyses of the rotor system without damper werecompleted. The effect caused by the damper on the rotor vibration control was explored preliminarily.Based on the Exploration module of ANSYS Workbench, the optimization design of the stiffness anddamping of the damper was finished with the unbalance response of the system as the optimizationgoal. Using transfer matrix method to analyze the response was also completed, which was comparedto the finite element method.According to the optimization result, distributed the whole stiffness of the damper to the squirrelcage and the MR. After that, the structural design of the squirrel cage was completed based on theStructural Analysis module of the ANSYS Workbench. Finally, the modal, harmonic and transient imbalance response experiments with the rotor systemunder the two different kinds of bearing were completed. As the result of the idealized assumption inthe simulation, there is a large difference in the stiffness and damping value between the simulationand the experiments. And so, the experimental and simulation results failed to maintain consistency. However, we can still find that the introduction of the damper can increase the modal damping ratioand reduce the vibration amplitude of rotor in the first bend critical speed. In one word, the damperpresented in this dissertation can improve the rotor vibration characteristics effectively.
