There are a lot of reasons which have brought up the huge challenge to the safetyof the continuous long and steep downgrades, such as, the elevation difference ofcontinuous long and steep downgrades is larger, the speed deviation is bigger, theproportion of the truck is more, the heavy traffic overloaded is seriously, the lack oftruck brake safety reserve, the problems of non-standard driving behavior which affectdriving safety are prominently abnormal and the traffic accidents occurrent frequently.The research object of this paper is the safety of the continuous long and steepdowngrades which combined with a typical highway continuous long and steepdowngrades that belong to Rinxin highway.The purpose of this paper is to analyze thesecurity mechanism of the continuous downhill sections, to research the drivers’behavior characteristics,the accident characteristics and the cause of the accident, toanalyze the running speed and capacity which influence the safe operation of thecontinuous long and steep downgrades, to give the temperature prediction method of thebrake and traffic accident prediction method of the continuous downhill sections,andeventually to put forward the comprehensive security measures of the continuous longand steep downgrades. The specific measures include: the general idea of thecontinuous long and steep downgrades’protection measures to improve the service andmanagement facilities, the active guidance measures, the speed management measures,the passive protective measures and the emergency treatment and rescue.With the constantly emerging of the new research results in recent years and theimprovement of the security requirement in new highway continuous long and steepdowngrades,the old method couldn’t satisfy the road construction and operation in thecurrent continuous long and steep downgrades. We need to use new knowledge andtheoretical guidance on the basis of the original method. So in this paper, on the basis ofcombining the theory of predecessors, I put forward the strategies in the safety design ofthe continuous long and steep downgrades which belong to Rinxin highway,improvements on design and construction and provide better ensure on thesafety of the passengers and drivers.
