With the rapid development of highway tunnels construction,there has being some newdesign concept and structural form in the field of highway tunnel ventilation to meet thenational call for energy saving and emission reduction actively,the twin-tube complementaryventilation is a representative example.This method which takes full advantage of the quiteasymmetric of the wind volume demand in the twin tubes,uses the theory of complementary,solves the problem of shaft ventilation ingeniously,has good social and economic benefit.The research of the twin-tube complementary ventilation is in its infancy,although it hasbeen applied in engineering practice,its applicability and operation mode is still a complexissue worthy of further study.Based on the theory of complementary ventilation,This paperfocused on the research of its applicability,combined with the practical engineeringapplication;Through calculator and analysis,the paper gives the conditions of applicabilitywhich including the environment,length,longitudinal slope and traffic volume of tunnel;Then,this paper established the three-dimensional model of complementary ventilationsystem,used the Fluent software to simulate the operation effect to verify the applicability ofcomplementary ventilation;In addition,the field measurement was taken in the complementaryventilation about the traffic,wind velocity and pollutant concentration based on Da bie Shantunnel,according to the data,this paper analysises the operation of ventilation under thedifferent conditions and compares the results with numerical simulation.This paper obtained a series of valuable concentration on the applicability ofcomplementary ventilation through the above research which is of benefit for the popularizeapplication of complementary ventilation and provides certain reference to the operationmanagement of tunnel used complementary ventilation in the future.
