Zhang Guying village has a unique settlement landscape morphology. It encompasses a strong historical background, cultural and spiritual values. This thesis will try to clarify Zhang Guying village’s historical texture, formation mechanism and continuation of humanism on settlement. Most of the materials is based on the theory of evolution, combining it with the theory of rural settlement and the theory of ecology. In order to have an in-depth view of Zhang Guying village’s site selection and development on landscape morphology, few methods has been applied in this thesis including surveying and mapping law, interview, literature research and comprehensive analysis. In all, the conclusions are as follows:(1) The site selection of Zhang Guying village is affected by a number of factors. These factors including geographical environment, village population, public transportation and agricultural resources. Out of all four factors, geographical environment remained the biggest factor that influent the development of Zhang Guying village’s landscape morphology.(2) The formation process of Zhang Guying village has few stages including selection of initial village site, expansion period of village’s future development and removal of village form period. The first stage of historical formation about Zhang Guying village settlement has the characteristic of "point to point". The second stage presents Dragon Village with the characteristic of natural linear development. The third stage describe the transformation of Zhang Guying village from "centralized" to "decentralized". And finally the village bloomed into a dual-core settlement system by using Dragon Village and Ancestral Hall.(3) Landscape patterns of Zhang Guying village settlement is a process of evolution. The population is the internal motivation to promote the development of settlement. Also, agricultural development of hill and mountain area during the Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty is external causes to promote Zhang Guying village settlement development.(4) Zhang Guying village is naturally form without external force, an ecological village without actual designing. It has no involvement of professional planners, nor does it has any signs that is design by an architect, its development is most organic to say the least.
