Ultra-high performance concrete RPC(Reactive Powder Concrete) is a verypromising field of civil engineering in new building materials, which hascharacteristics of lightweight, high strength, high durability and high toughness, etc. When RPC is used in structural wall members, the weight of RPC walls is lighter andthe inertia is lower compared with general structural walls. Because of the highcompression strength of RPC structural walls and on the basis of the carrying capacity, the cross sectional area of walls is lower than general walls allowing the building hasmore space. High durability could make better ductility of structure and improvedenergy dissipation capacity. In this paper, response of RPC structural walls to seismic loading wasinvestigated experimentally. The effect of aspect ratio of structural walls wasconsidered. The bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation capacity, the charactersof shear failure and bending failure which could affect the seismic performance arediscussed.Three RPC structural wall specimens were constructed and tested to simulateseismic loading. The mechanical characteristics of RPC structural walls underdifferent shear span ratio are detailed. The flexural failure and shear failuremechanism of the RPC structural walls are analyzed. The hysteric load-deflection curve, the skeleton curve and the stiffnessdegradation curve were obtained, and an evaluation of ductility and energy dissipationcapacity of specimens is discussed by comparing the existing tests about the structuralwalls. Test results indicate that, the RPC structural wall has high bearing capacity, andit has favorable ductility and energy dissipation capacity when the shear span ratio ofRPC structural wall is larger than2.Based on the finite element software MSC-MARC, the numerical simulationvalues are consistent with the experimental research. The hysteric curve of structuralwalls is studied through changing the axial pressure area ratio, longitudinalreinforcement amount of implied column. The effects of seismic performance of RPCstructural walls are discussed.
