Switched Reluctance Motor has many excellent characteristics, suchas simple and durability structure, flexible control, high operationreliability, and low-cost. The rotor is constructed from a stack of siliconlaminations and has no windings or magnets. The structure can withstandhigh mechanical stress, especially fit for high speed or super high speedenvironment. At present,in the practical application on SR motor, fewliterature devoted to high speed SR motor application on electric tool.Aiming at such requirement, high speed SR motor and the whole drivecircuit system are developed in this paper, which is suitable for electrictool. By making full use of the outstanding merits of SR motor, morecomplete basic theory and key technology support for high speed SRmotor extend serialization can be provided.Firstly, the high speed SR motor theory and engineering practice areintroduced in this paper. Various high speed motors are comparativeanalyzed comprehensively. And on this basis a prototype of1kW threephase6/4poles high speed switched reluctance motor is designed. Thenthe finite element analysis has been carried out by the software of Ansoft.Taking the advantage of Ansoft parameterize function, the prototypestructure parameters optimization are realized. The simulation results alsoverify the correctness of the design method. Secondly, this paper makes acomparative research on advantage and disadvantage of several typicalpower converters which the high speed SR motor system has adopted andchooses power converter that matches the prototype. In addition, amethod of three-switch power converter applied to high speed SR motordrive system is proposed to improve commutation performance when SRmotor is running at high speed. Thirdly, the hardware circuits of eachmodule are designed and realized. Experimental platform for high speedSR motor drive system has been established. The actual conditionexperiments are implemented on the designed platform. Experimentsshow that the system platform runs steadily under high speedenvironment, reaches the design requirement and breaks through some key techniques. The outcome of the experiment also proved the validityof the design scheme and design process in this experiment platform.
