In recent years, with the gradual expansion of the grid-scale structure of the electricity network and its line more and more complex, frequent occurrence of domestic and foreign large area blackout chains, increasingly serious consequences caused by the accident, the country’s economic development, people’s living and caused a huge impact on national security, which makes the safe and reliable operation of power system problems become more and more prominent. How to assess the grid an urgent become the world power system during operation, in particular the level of reliability in the fault status and special operating mode.This paper studies the process of development of the state assessment and condition-based maintenance of overhead lines, the impact of overhead lines running various parts defects and reliability factors to determine the overhead line condition assessment and condition-based maintenance status information. Overhead line condition assessment and condition-based maintenance of a variety of assessment methods, the use of FTA fault tree evaluation method, the establishment of a mathematical model of the overhead line condition assessment. Overhead line condition assessment and condition-based maintenance criteria, the establishment of overhead line condition assessment and condition-based maintenance events at all levels, and the corresponding weight coefficient calculation method.Finally, the paper application VB program the evaluation system software design, combined with on-site collection and sorting defects and failure data, the software used in Taiyuan Zhao Kuang220kV line, and to assess the level of reliability of the results and the actual running a comparative analysis to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results showed that the mathematical model is simple and effective, can be drawn overhead transmission lines at all levels of reliability index for different operating conditions and the corresponding weak links, some practical value for guiding the operation of overhead transmission lines overhaul.
