Under the traffic loads and natural factors, asphalt pavement turns harden graduallyduring the long-term usage. The specific performance is asphalt becomes brittle andextending reduced, which resulting in asphalt pavement cracks, pits, loose and otherforms of destruction. Therefore, the asphalt pavement must be repaired after a certainyears. With the increasing amount of asphalt pavement maintenance and repair works,which produce a large amount of waste asphalt mixture. Waste stack and buried willcause great damage to the environment. At the same time, the oil storage is decreasingon the earth, and the road asphalt mainly comes from the oil industry. In many countries,the stone production has also been greatly restricted since the mining law enacted.Therefore, the applied research of asphalt pavement recycling technology is urgentlyneeded.Following the promulgation and enforcement of ‘Technical Specifications forHighway Asphalt Pavement Recycling’, application of asphalt pavement recyclingtechnology has been standardized, and the quality of renewable road has beenguaranteed. But, the specification is specific to the asphalt pavement of high gradehighway, it has no clear guidance for low grade highway asphalt pavement. Similarly,the specification requires that reclaimed asphalt pavement material mixed with a smallproportion, and the regeneration asphalt mixture can be only used for the middle andlower layer of high grade highway. The index of high grade highway asphalt pavementrecycling technology cannot be suitable to the low grade highway asphalt pavementrecycling technology.This paper relies on the repair works of Xingtian Road in Qianxinan State,Guizhou Province. After the investigation of original asphalt pavement, we getreclaimed asphalt pavement material (RAP material) through pavement milling. Westandardized the preparation and management of RAP material, and we tested theperformance of the asphalt and aggregate in RAP material. In this paper, the researcheson the mechanism of the asphalt regeneration was summarized, the effection of asphaltregenerant was evaluated, the optimum dosage of regenerant was decided. Wedetermined the mix proportion design of recycled asphalt mixture on the basis of thelargest possible proportion of RAP material, and we tested the performance of recycled asphalt pavement. In addition, this paper studied the construction technology andeconomic benefits of recycled asphalt pavement combined with the actual project.Through the applied research on pavement regeneration technology of low gradehighway asphalt, the feasibility of100%recycled RAP materials was determined. Andthe feasibility of using recycled asphalt material in the surface layer of low gradehighway was also determined. This paper makes a guide for asphalt pavementregeneration technology of low grade highway applications. |
