Electromagnetic pump driven liquid metal transfer has been widely appreciated asan important part of shaping metal products in recent years. Electromagnetic pumptransfer liquid metal by electromagnetic force is widely used in the industrialproduction of light alloy process with its high efficiency, less pollution, precisecontrol. According to the electromagnetic pump in Magnesium Alloy CastingExperiments Center of University of Science and Technology Liaoning, a variousparameters numerical simulation study was done on magnetic and electric fields ofelectromagnetic pump under different concentrating magnetic head structure, variouscurrent values, coil turns as well as runner sizes.The influence of magnetic flux density in different concentrating magnetic headstructure, various current value as well as coil turns were studied, coupled withelectric field in different runner structure. The results show that concentratingmagnetic head of ferrite core could effectively improve the uniform magnetic fieldand the magnetic flux density; the most appropriate size of concentrating magnetichead sectional dimension was50~60percent of ferrite core sectional dimension;ferrite core reached magnetism saturation when exciting current was1300A and coilturns were20, that was magnetic flux density unchanged though exciting current andcoil turns increased; current density decreased and the proportion of current density ineffective direction reduced with the increasing of length and width of runner. Throughexperiments study, magnesium alloy liquid was continuously and stably transferredwhen current was1350~1380A, and velocity reached272g/s, and that was consistentwith the simulation results.Compared with the low-pressure foundry magnesium alloy, casting magnesiumalloy strip has simple process, short process time and high yield. Liquid magnesiumalloy is transferred by electromagnetic pump, the flow velocity must match exactlywith the casting machine rolls. ANSYS was used to carry out the distribution ofelectromagnetic pump electromagnetic field, the results have profound theoretical andpractical meaning for in-depth understanding and optimization of the direct currentelectromagnetic pump electromagnetic field characteristics.
