Vacuum pump canned motor has advantages completely leak-free, reliable and low noiseetc, is the key equipment to creating production line of photovoltaic industry environment.However, the metallic can between stator and rotor is influenced by the rotating magnetic fieldcausing eddy losses、temperature rise、thermal deformation and thermal stress on it,the directresult is the can may be expansion, pleating,rupture and leak,affecting the quality and yield ofsolar photovoltaic components. Sometimes the components of the whole production line maybe scrapped, causing large economic loss. Exploring the root of caned motor pump leakage、seeking the improved methods and measures are urgent to solve practical engineeringproblems. This paper using the finite element analysis method, study the vacuum pump canedmotor can loss, temperature rise, thermal deformation and thermal stress.Firstly, reviewed the development and application of canned motor pump, summarizedthe structure, operating principles and design features of the canned motor. Analyzed theproblems of the can eddy current losses, simulated and calculate the distribution of can’s eddycurrent by commercial finite element analysis software. And got the current eddy losses of thecan, the iron loss and winding loss of the caned motor. Then analyzed and compared eachmotor loss with different resistivity material can.Secondly, esTab.lished vacuum pump caned motor temperature field analysis modelcombining with the result of losses analyzed by ANSOFT. Then analyzed the character of thecaned motor temperature distribution with different resistivity material can, Picked up thecurve of the temperature distribution at steady operating to find the temperature relationshipbetween the main components of the caned motor.Thirdly, imported the temperature result to the stress field calculation, obtained thethermal deformation and thermal stress. By analyzing and comparing the result of the stressfield analysis with different resistivity material can, this paper got a rationalize conclusion ofthe can material selection.Finally, based on the temperature field analysis result, this paper analyzed the stressfield of the improved “Topper” can, and compared with the conventional can, verified thefeasibility and effectiveness of the new kind can.
