As a special cable which is mainly used in electric communication network, ADSS cable (All Dielectric Self-Supporting) has good performance of anti-lightning, high tensile strength and other characteristics suitable for long-distance communications so it is widely used. However, ADSS cable is vulnerable to galvanic corrosion damage in operation because of environmental and electric field affects. The humid climate includes soluble salts, especially in China’s coastal cities and the heavily polluted area, form semi-conductive layer on cable’s surface by a long time. Then it results in the electric corrosion of the cable.The problem of electric-corrosion ADSS cable in Guangzhou five incidents is analyzed. Combined electric field and environment, this paper has given the solutions of anti-corrosion. Using ANSYS simulation software calculates the electric field strength at the hanging point of cable. The electric field at fittings is analyzed to study the effect of electrical cable fittings for corrosion. Combining electric field analysis, this paper optimizes the cable hanging points to avoid electric corrosion.Further, in order to determine the causes of electric corrosion, according to IEEE PI222standard we made tracking resistance testing for cable in order to examine whether the quality of the cable outer sheath qualified. Then this paper established an experiment platform based on the calculation results and the actual environmental conditions to study the impact of fittings on ADSS cable’s electrical corrosion in actual operation. Finally, to solve the electrical corrosion of ADSS cable, protective measures that install semiconductor sheath are taken. Experimental result proves that it has good results in galvanic corrosion prevention. This paper also point out the lack of improvement and future direction of this protection method.
