With the rapid development of the national economy, China’s electric power system is also developing very rapidly. The electricity market has implemented gradually, the basic situation of the "separation of power plants and grid, bidding generation" has formed, and a large grid interconnection strategy has gradually expanded. Therefore, the study of coordinating operational issues between the unit and the power grid, as well as the coordinating generators with electrical network has great significance on the security and stability of the entire power system. This paper mainly studies the modeling of thermal power plants and grid power systems, uses the established union simulation platform of power plants and grid to study the operation of coordinating generators with electrical network. In this paper, the specific work is as follows:Firstly, we analyze and build the mathematical models of each of the major components in power plant based thermal power plants simulation platform of SimuEngine, then we build the simulation modules of all major parts of thermal power plants, and we get the whole simulation model of the power plants.Secondly, we build the mathematical modes of all the major components of the power system, such as synchronous generators, transformers, transmission lines and loads based on the real-time digital simulator RTDS. Then we build a complete power system model to carry on power system simulation and analysis.Thirdly, we describe two methods for the thermal power plant simulator SimuEngine and the real-time digital simulator RTDS to communicate. One of the two methods is based on the statute of RTDS GTNET/DNP3.0communication methods, the other communication method is based on RTDS I/O module analog communication method. We also use the C++language to develop a interface software of communication based on the protocol of RTDS’s GTNET/DNP3.0, so we realize successfully the communication of the thermal power plant simulator SimuEngine and the real-time digital simulator RTDS.Lastly, we use the established union simulation platform of power plants to study the operation of the unit and grid and we can check the accuracy and rationality of the system’s mathematical model.
