Fault diagnosis system for power grid is designed to assist dispatchers locating the fault devices and tackling fault events accurately and efficiently. Though plenty of fault diagnosis methods for power grid proposed have made a great progress in simulation, an inevitable defect in poor practically performance hinders their process of practical application. The method in use of expert system and information theory considers every type of uncertainty in fault information. Under the circumstances of failure operation of protective relays and circuit breakers, distortion in remote channels as well as big difference in stamp-time between stations, it gives the correct result. Based on it, this paper develops an applying system for Quanzhou power grid. The system improves sort of difficulties, such as the way of selecting possible information source and sets the electrical relative breakers of busbar protection adaptively. Operating process of breaker failure protection, autoreclosure and power automatic switching have been also considered in the diagnosis. Using fault information, model of electrical primary and secondary equipment and dynamic topology of the grid, the system is designed to start diagnosing itself and result displayed under the real time operation condition, while under research condition, capable of reverse analyzing of historic fault events and searching for results of them. The knowledge maintenance tool provides a convenient way to form a quantity of knowledge at one time, which makes the system easier to use. The example in Quanzhou power grid shows that the system is capable of diagnosing complex fault and events with mistakes in receiving fault information and inaccurate of SOE time-stamp.
