AMI(Advanced Metering Infrastructure) is one of the fundamental technology for future power system when it getting more and more automatic, intelligent, interactive and transparent. To get steady running state of power grid, the functionalities of operation, protection, self-restore must be supported by more secure effective and reliable communication system. AMI communication network not only transport the metering data, it also should complete the functions like demand and response, real-time price and fault detection and so on. Durning the integration process of power system and communication network, the information risks must be introduced into the power grid in the while. So the development of AMI’s heterogeneous network and its information security issues will be a key problem, which needed to pay more research efforts on the construction process of AMI system in smart grid.Firstly in this paper, author analyzed the communication architecture, application scenario and potential security risks in AMI system, and then propose to utilize open standards to speed up the deployments of AMI system. Based on above jobs, a feasible symmetry data protection scheme adopting AES and GMAC was proposed to satisfy the requirements of data integrity and confidentiality. In order to satisfy the requirements of the computation and memory resource limitation in the AMI embedded devices, such as smart meter, paper introduced and analyzed a key establishment mechanism bashed on Blom algorithm which including a trust third party KDC. The final analysis results show the research of this paper can provide some valuable reference to the AMI system construction.
