Rapid development of high-speed railway and urban railway transit (URT) has witnessed the transfer between them acting as the important node of the construction of integrated transport system inside and outside the city. The good transfer between them is of great significance for passengers’travel-time saving and construction of the integrated passenger transport system inside and outside the city. Although a large number of studies about the interior transfer stations of URT system have been conducted, almost all of them are based on the passenger flow transferring in the URT system. Moreover, the passenger flow transferring between the high-speed railway and URT differs significantly from that in the interior of URT system, and the characteristics of passenger flow play a critical role in transfer facilities’ traffic capacity. Thus, this thesis aims to conduct an in-depth study of the transfer between the high-speed railway and URT on the basis of the characteristics of passenger flow transferring between them.In accordance with passengers’time interval through transfer facilities, this thesis analyzes the effect of characteristics of passenger flow on transfer facilities’traffic capacity. It explores the effect of such factors as composition of passengers, carry-on luggage and types of cards, etc. on the passengers’time through the security inspection equipment and the automatic ticket checker from the micro perspective, building the mathematic calculating model of transfer facilities’ traffic capacity with the characteristics of passenger flow. The thesis is a case study on the investigation of Beijing South Station. The data of this investigation indicates that the maximum traffic capacities of the security inspection equipment and the automatic ticket checker based on the characteristics of passenger flow are respectively1800people per hour and1400people per hour, which supplements the reference value of the maximum traffic capacity of the security inspection equipment in Code for the Design of Metro. The maximum traffic capacity of the automatic ticket checker worked out in this thesis is30.4%lower than the reference value in Code for the Design of Metro. By means of VISSIM, this thesis tests the theoretical traffic capacity of the automatic ticket checker and the security inspection equipment based on the characteristics of passenger flow, and analyzes the mutual matching of traffic capacity of the automatic ticket checker, the S connecting channel and the security inspection equipment. The investigation shows that when the utilization ratio of the transfer facility is0.8, its queuing length is reasonable, offering reference for the design of traffic facilities at the transfer station between high-speed railway and UMT.
