Chinese elements are the inexhaustible precious art treasures for modern interior design, which have been inheriting, developing and evolving their particular aesthetic characteristics and traditional cultural deposits in the long course of history. The decorating elements of traditional Chinese art which are discovered and confined during the course pass the traditional Chinese view of nature, ethics, and humanism into modern interior design, and make Chinese interior design possible to meet people’s comprehensive demands on the practical application functions and artistic represents; thus these elements could still keep their national features in the international styling trends, which has positive and far-reaching significance in the preservation of traditional culture.Interior design is a kind of vital culture carrier, and the Chinese elements, which reflect Chinese culture both materially and spiritually, provide valuable creation materials for modern interior design and have a great reputation in the international designing world. More and more designers start to dig out the elements of Chinese style and their cultural concepts in order to design some modern spaces with Chinese style. This makes a big step forward in the modernization of traditional elements. The Chinese elements themselves are regional, national, profound, and rich in content. They can not only spread the exquisite material appearance of elements, but also create an abundant spacial effect. This thesis focuses on the current situation which is non-difference and non-identification in modern Chinese-style interior design; mainly studies interior designs in Ming-Qing Dynasties and discusses how to represent modern Chinese-style interior design in which Chinese elements could highlight their features and locate culture precisely; analyzes position of indoor space, creation of atmosphere and decoration of furnishings. The author paraphrases the elements of Chinese style in Ming-Qing Dynasties from the angle of historical development, analyzes the construction of the elements of traditional design, such as colors, figures, calligraphy, building units and folktales during that period, and dwells on the resources of some particular classic elements. The thesis elaborates how to utilize Chinese style into modern interior design (such as analyzing the connections in design among wall, floor, ceiling, partitions, furniture) and also analyzes features of traditional Ming-Qing style furniture and their effects on modern interior design, to explore and abstract the adapted methods and the practical results of each element on the basis of refining inside cultural meaning from various Ming-Qing style elements.In the new era of21st century, many new modes of thinking and new ideas spring up, at the same time, traditional culture has been strongly impacted, which urges us to pay more attention to protect, inherit and develop our traditional culture; the fantastic development of modern technologies and new materials also provide more possibilities for designers to make use of and recreate our traditional elements. The historical mission of the designers in this generation is to grasp the pulse of market, keep pace with the tide of time, treat our excellent traditions rightly, and bring forth the new from the old, dig out more advantages from traditions. Only in this way could our traditional art and culture shine with new vitality.
