"Huizhou Culture" is one of the three major regional cultures in China. As an important carrier of "Huizhou Culture", Hui-style architecture has long been praised highly by architects and designers at home and abroad. Hui-style architecture is an embodiment of Huizhou culture and history and a symbol of Huizhou humanistic ideas. It reflects the social ideology and profound cultural connotation of that period in the most intuitive way. Hui-style architecture reached a peak of art and technology in Ming and Qing dynasties, featured by grand scale, reasonable layout, coordinated structure and elegant and exquisite style. It follows the Taoist concept of "harmony between man and nature", as well as reflects the Confucian thoughts that man and nature and man and society should be in harmonious coexistence. It also carries Huizhou businessman’s cultural character of "concurrently being businessmen and scholars, doing business while advocating Confucianism". These integrated together form the unique artistic charm of the decoration and furnishings of ancient dwellings in Huizhou.The continuous development of local culture is based on the inheritance of traditional culture. As an important component of Huizhou Culture, Hui-style architectural culture is the cornerstone of the development of modern interior design, especially that of modern Hui-style interior design.This paper discusses the features of Hui-style architecture in terms of its origin, styling elements and typical furnishings and decorative styles. With the interior design culture of Hui-style architecture as a starting point, the paper studies the inheritance of the interior decoration culture of Hui-style architecture in Ming and Qing dynasties and its application in modern interior design, to fuse the implication of Hui-style architecture with the pursuit of modern interior design, and to promote the development of national cultural and artistic features in modern interior design.
