Waterway regulation structures design and structural stability is the key to maintaining regulation effect. In this study, by the measured data analysis, field research, expert advice, generalized physical model test and dimensional mathematical model test, it analyzes the flow structure around the regulation structures and damaged mechanism. As the bases, it researches waterway regulation structure type and application in upper Yangtze River. The main results are as follows:1. According to Samov and Izzy Bash sediment incipient formula, it analyzes the conclusion that the sensitivity and stability of traditional regulating structures with scattered riprap is poor.2. According mountain river flow characteristics, combining traditional regulating structures water damaged analysis, it proposed new structures and new materials of waterway regulating structures, and analyzed the application effect in typical shoal and rapids, regulating structures remained stable.3. The main damage of waterway regulation structure occurs on dike head、dike crest、 the downstream slope and dike root. The generalized model research indicates:(1) not submerged state:the turbulent flow is one of the important reasons for dike head damage, so some reinforcement measures should be taken on this position;(2) just submerged state:some scouring damage will occur on the dike crest and the stability of downstream slope and toe is worse because of the scouring effect of tumble water;(3) completely submerged state:the downstream water structure is complex and turbulent, pressure gradient, flow velocity gradient、eddy value and the turbulence intensity surrounding dike crest and dam head are all large, so some reinforcement measures should be taken on these positions.4. Several new types of waterway regulation structure are proposed by analyzing the research of new structure and new materials in upper Yangtze River, and these new structure types achieve good results on projects. The study results can not only be better applied to the upper Yangtze River, but also set a templet for other mountain river waterway regulation.
