Cable-stayed bridge is a kind of structure system which is composed by three basiccomponents: the column, girder and the cable. The column is the key part of the threefor not only to support the enormous axial force that mainly constituted by gravity ofthe column and vertical force component of the cable, but also to support enormousbending moment. In addition, as Unique symbol of Cable-stayed bridge, the structuretype of column is innovated time by time, and the stress of column becomescomplicated too. So you should consider not only the strength, the stiffness and thestability of the tower but also the links between the tower and the girder, the cable, thebridge pier and the stress at special part of tower when you design structures in order toensure the safety at construction and forth putting of the bridge.The Dong Shui-men Chang Jiang River Bridge was taken for example in this study.There is a bifurcation which is similar with a Y at the connection between the bridgepier and the lower tower column. The stress in this bifurcation is very complicated anduncertain in the progress of the bridge construction and forth putting of the bridge.Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the stress feature of the bifurcation and discoverhow the stress distributing and magnitude of it.First, set up finite element model of thebridge with procedure named Midas Civil and analyze the stress at every step ofconstruction, choose the worst steps according to the results that was computed in Civiland the key steps in bridge construction. Then set up finite element model of thebifurcation with procedure named Midas FEA, and analyze the magnitude and locationof principal tensile stress and principal compressive stress, and strain at steps that waschosen. After that we can assess the safety of the bifurcation structure and give someadvice.
