The performance of cooling on vehicle engine compartment is the key factorinfluence the dynamic characteristics, driving stability, reliability. As the devolepment ofeconomy and society, how to guarantee the cooling performance of the engine becomeone of hotspots and difficulty in the field of air dynamic research, as the vehiclecomprehensive performance is increasing. In this paper, Dongfeng company car radiatorprojects as a platform, a systematic analysis of flow field and temperature fieldcharacteristics is conducted on the engine compartment of a front engine bus with CFDnumerical simulation technology, and some improves of structure are put forward. Theresults has a certain practical significance to improve underhood cooling performance.Firstly, some flow field characteristics and temperature distribution of the maximumtorque and power rating points working conditions are obtained, by a numericalsimulation of complex airside flow of underhood and external. Through analysis, andcombined with the real model, three feasible structure improvement schemes are putforward. Then, numerical calculations are conducted for the improved models, and thereare further optimizations for them, by compared with the the original project. So thelast modelling of the improved parts are defined, as well as their positions.Finally, the best structure improvement program of improving cooling performanceis acquired, by comprehensive comparison of optimization effects between the separatescheme and combination schemes. Through analysis, this scheme can effectively inhibitbackflow between cooling fan and the engine, improving the air-out and air-in conditionof cooling system, and generating positive impact at the back of the engine compartment.The results show the feasibility of using of CFD numerical simulation technology forcooling analysis on the engine compartment, and provide a certain reference for thedesign of engine compartment on a front engine bus.
