Safe operation of the power system conditions related to the development ofnational economy and the stability of people’s lives. To ensure the normal operationof the substation, the State Grid Corporation made a smart substation equipmentcondition-based maintenance goals. With the rapid development of internet ofthings technology, internet of things based technology of substation equipmentonline monitoring has become the main line of development of future intelligentsubstation. Digital substation upgrading, particularly in the transformation of theold station, wireless sensor networks with its no wiring, simple construction,easy to expand, etc., has become an important way to achieve the monitoringsystem.This paper summarizes the equipment condition monitoring and principles, aswell as the basic principles and advantages of internet of things technology,especially wireless sensor networks. Followed, this paper analyzes the feasibilityof wireless sensor network applications in substation equipment monitoringsystem, design characteristics of the overall scheme of wireless sensor networksfor the substation network. Based application environment of substation, analyzingthe selected sensors and sensor anti-electromagnetic interference measures. Andintroduced the structure of the ZigBee wireless network and the reliability measureswere taken in network transmission. Analyzed functional requirements of thesoftware part of the monitoring system and the technical means, hshowed systemssoftware. At a time when digital substation upgrade to intelligent substation, thework done in this paper will provide a useful ideas to this work, has goodapplication prospects.
