The current structural seismic design is force-based, in which lateral force distributionpattern is derived from elastic dynamic time history analysis of the structure. Whenstructures enter the plastic phase under a strong earthquake, the elastic story sheardistribution pattern given by the current seismic code is not suitable for elastoplasticstructure and fails to completely reflect the influence of higher modes on structure. In order to provide theory foundations for performance-based seismic design, thechevron braced steel frames designed by PKPM software are studied in this paper, withdifferent parameters such as10-story3-span,15-story3-span,15-story3-span withvariable height,15-story3-span with variable span,15-story5-span, and20-story3-span.Firstly, the time history analysis of six structure examples is completed by using the finiteelement software SAP2000under multiple far-fault ground motions and near-fault groundmotions with velocity pulse. Secondly, the story shear force distribution under differentlevels earthquakes, shear supported by braces and interstory displacement angle areobtained. Finally, this paper proposes a story shear distribution pattern of chevron bracedsteel frames under far-field and near-fault fortification, rarely occurred earthquake throughregression analysis and analyses the influence of structure characteristics, ground motioncharacteristics on story shear distribution.
