As intersection always becomes the bottleneck in the road network, its reform issue has also been hot in the field of traffic engineering. Domestic and foreign studies about design methods of single intersection are said to be relatively mature. But with the growing size of the urban road network, and the increasingly diverse traffic behavior, the traffic flow between two adjacent intersections in a short distance tends to interfere with each other, which can always cause congestions. Therefore, this thesis will choose the collaborative optimization design of the short-distance adjacent intersections in the urban road network as the main research content. And by analyzing the main causes of traffic congestion, the paper proposed a design method about dual-intersection-related parameters, and made an evaluation model to optimize the design. Specifically, this thesis completed the following tasks:First, the thesis studied on the traffic flow characteristics between two intersections, and summarized the likely major causes of traffic congestion. Second, the thesis present the evaluation indexes of the traffic flow between two intersections, and also the related evaluation methods. Third, to mitigate the traffic congestion between two intersections, the thesis proposed the optimization method and related principles, and optimized the main parameters. Finally, the thesis tried to design and evaluate a true case of an urban road network between two intersections.The main innovations of the thesis are:First, it firstly proposed a comprehensive evaluation system of two adjacent intersections; second, compared to the previous single-factor optimization studies on the urban adjacent intersections, this thesis put forward a more complete multi-factor optimization design.This thesis has some practical effects, because it can provide a reference for future construction and improvement of urban dual intersections or continuous intersections.
