Self-centering structure uses post-tensioned (PT) high-strength steel screwsrunning along the beam, column or concrete wall with an energy dissipation. The PTscrews provide a self-centering capability so the joint can be exhibited self-centeringfunctions that reduce residual rotational angles and alleviate structural damage process. The energy dissipation provide energy dissipation capacity for the connection.correpondingly the performance-based design object and the potential to avoid thecostly were fulfilled successfully. Self-centering structure is an important researchdirection in the field of structural engineering.Combined with the advantage in seismic performance of Self-centering structureand Fully encased composite columns exhibited higher lateral stiffness meanwhilepost-tensioned (PT) high-strength steel screws can be anchored reliably. In order tofulfill correpondingly the performance-based design object of compatibility betweenpartial self-centering, energy-dissipation and the safety redundancy. PEC column withCrimping Thin-Walled Built-Up Section-steel beam interior joint with post-tensionedfriction damped connection were selected as the subjects to study, The column layoutand prestress of prestressed screws were taken as the design parameters and the loadingequipment capacity of the test lab and the actual boundary condition of prototypestructure were taken into consideration. Then the test of2specimens designed andfabricated by1:1.6scale which represented the interior joints were conducted underquasi-static cyclic lateral loading to study the hysteretic behaviors, self-centeringfunction, energy-dissipation capacity, loading-deformance style and force-transferringmechaism of joint.A general FEM analysis software called ABAQUS is adopted to simulate testspecimen subjected to cyclic loading, the results agreed well with the test, whichprovided reference for further simulation study.Seal plate on the beam end, PECcolumn layout, prestress of prestressed screws, the thickness of reinforced cover plateand layout of pre-tensioned high-strength penetrating bolts were taken into account, thefinite element software ABAQUS was adopted to build10mechanical models andfurther analyze design influencing factors on their seismic performances. Series ofuseful conclusions are drawn from FEM analysis. The research on seismic performance of new type PEC column-steel beam withpost-tensioned friction damped connection is comparatively comprehensive andsystematic, which provides more theoretical basis for amending the specification andrelevant engineering practice of the partial self-centering structure comprised of PECcolumns—steel beam.
