With the rapid development of socio-economy and scientific and technologicalinnovation, transportation modes have become increasingly complex and diverse. Inorder to satisfy a variety of passengers’ traveling demand, the joint development ofvarious modes of transport has become a consensus, which is one of the fundamentalways to optimize the integrated transport system. Depending on the disadvantages offierce competition, uncoordinated convergence, huge gap between transport servicesand infrastructure among the different transportation modes, the study analyzes therelationships between the various modes of transport and puts forward a proposal forthe joint development, which could accomplish the economical and efficient usage oftransportation resources. In terms of the integrated transport system in China, road passenger transport andrail passenger transport, the two main transportation modes, are competing as well ascooperating with each other. Over the years, the amount of passenger transport andpassenger-kilometers of highway have showed the obviously dominant position in thepassenger transport market, indicating that it is the primary way in the short-distancepassenger travel. However, with the construction of the basic formation of fastpassenger rail network and high-speed railway, there is a sharp increase in the totalamount of intercity passenger transport and the road transport capacity appears to besaturated. Intercity railway has become the backbone of the regional inter-citytransportation in its safe, fast, comfortable characters, environmental protection andother advantages. Besides, with the continuous expansion of city and the improvementof people’s living standards, demands on passenger travel come to a trend of high-end,specialization and diversification. Therefore, there will be a furious competitionbetween highway passenger transport and intercity railway to fight for the marketshare in regional transport corridor.Based on a large number of relevant literature and research results, this studyuses the knowledge of engineering system theory and collaborative learning theory, onthe basis of in-depth analysis on the intercity railway and road passenger transportsystem, and works out a multi-objective cooperative optimization model for intercityrailway and road passenger transport system, which has the optimization objectives ofthe minimum difference between actual and ideal function use and the maximumsocial benefits of passengers. Firstly, gave a detailed analysis of the two modes oftransport on development situation and problems existed currently. Secondly, compared their technical and economic characteristics and described the challenges and opportunities coming with development of intercity railway. Finally, summed upthe goal and the principles of the joint development of intercity railway and roadpassenger transportation system. This thesis based on bunch of researches andcombined with the real conditions of Chengdou-Mianyang-Leshan intercity railway.Using analysis methods of gray relational analysis to have a deep view of the factorsaffecting Passengers travel mode choice;using the exponential smoothing of passengerflow forecasting methods and predicted the passenger flow of regional cities along theinter-city railways, highways and existing railways in future feature years; calculatedthe intercity passenger rail and road sharing rate, and used the Logit model toestimate the share rate of intercity railway and road passenger transport; used themodel to solve the problem and had results analysis, and provided the structure ratioof passengers on Chengdou-Mianyang-Leshan intercity’s highway passenger, intercityrailway and existing railway. Finally, gave an appropriate countermeasure on the jointdevelopment of intercity railway and highway passenger transport from differentperspectives.
