Design Study Of Landscape Upgrading To Yingze Park In Taiyuan

As the old urban pattern has been replaced by the new-era city development trend, todaybeautiful parks mean quite a lot to a city. Urban public green areas efficiently improve the cityenvironmental construction. Besides, it also makes great contribution to a region’senvironment so that the image of the place is well built, which also helps enhance the softcultural power of the place, and most importantly, plays an irreplaceable role in bothentertainment and cultural activities for citizens. Yingze Park, the biggest urban park inTaiyuan, is all the local folks’ pride with great importance to the city. With a history of morethan50years, the park still has some severe problems about landscape design even though itwas reformed many times in its later period. As a result, the development of this park is beingheld back, and both the locals and visitors find it hard to meet their practical needs. Therefore,combined to both theory and practice, this article is aimed at rebuilding a new image ofYingze Park, ecologically, culturally and harmonically. In the meanwhile, more perfectedtheories on urban landscape-enhancing design are provided as references for the relatedreformation work in the future.Approaches such as literature research, field investigation and theory-practicecombination have been conducted in this study, in order to reform the landscape scenes inYingze Park. Firstly a lot of research progress related to the subject has been looked up, fromwhich precious experience about urban landscape-rebuilding design has been extracted andlearnt. Apart from that, we studied concepts about urban city as well as its classification andfunctions. By doing that, approaches to making use of various landscape elements andtheories on urban park design have been concluded. Eventually, according to the analysis ofthe current situations, a landscape-reforming design has been carried out for Yingze Park,based on related theories and studies. Results and conclusions are as follows:(1) By investigating the present situation of Yingze Park, following problems areconcluded: The cultural spirit of the park is vanishing, which has unfortunately held back theheritage of the culture; The landscape layout of the park is inflexible, for which visitors find itall the same moving from one place to another, and meanwhile the concept of ecologicallandscape is not practically delivered from the current composition of the park; The practicalneeds of people are not well met due to less humanized consideration; The park is mainly designed for viewing scenes, whose teaching and scientific uses are in decline; Old anddefectively designed facilities in the park put the visitors in potential danger.(2) The design of landscape scenes in Yingze Park is based on the humanistic history,following the principle of ecological optimization, which has improved the whole concept ofthis reform project. Both culture and ecology are applied in the design as the main strongpoints. Besides, by increasing green areas and building humanistic landscape views, anoutline on the whole of the park has been formed. Moreover, the culture of hand-workingShanxi merchants and their teamwork spirit are also presented through applying plantelements, garden ornaments as well as symbols into the park, which represent its symbolicmeanings.(3) Aiming at the current problems of the park, both basic principles and methods havebeen put forward to improve the former design, based on the design-enhancing theoriesrelated to this study. Besides, a larger scale of vegetation should be applied in the designecologically, in the meanwhile well combined to the original scenes. In order to preserve thepark memories, landscape and culture should remain together. Moreover, functions are asimportant as esthetic values, for which people-centric approach should be carried out ratherthan empty words.(4) This design aims at improving the park scenes on the condition the old structure willbe kept, considering culture and ecology as a breakthrough to conduct adjustments properly,which helps realize the functions of the park scenery and promote its artistic value. As for thestructure of the park, Yingze Park can be analyzed as1circle,2axes,4zones and multiplescenic spots, which enriches the expression of the park. In terms of the culture and humansignificance, new images of the scenic spots will be built to make the cultural theme of thepark clearer and more vivid, as to meet various needs of different groups of people.(5) Both the thoughts and the results concerning park reformation applied in YingzePark will set a good example for other urban park rebuilding projects around Taiyuan so thatpeople and even the whole society will benefit more from this design.
