Research On The Strategy Integrating Agricultural Landscape Into Urban Space

As the quickening pace of urbanization, the population and the attribution of land in the cityhave sharply changed. A consequent social and environmental problem, such as the decrease offarming land, the absent of natural resource and the issue of food safety and security, has arisentogether. In addition, the love to country life and the yearn for self-sufficiency from citizens arestill on-going. All of these phenomena give birth to the agricultural landscape in urban space.Aiming at the challenge from social-environmental and cultural aspects during theurbanization process and the productive phenomenon in urban landscapes, this essay attempts toargue the inevitability and necessity of integrating agricultural landscape into urban space, Bymeans of literature reading and case studying, this essay, from the perspective of urban planningand landscape architecture, tries to explore the integrating models and practical driving for urbanagricultural landscape in both design theories and practical cases. At the theoretical level, thisessay analyses the social background and the development of urban agricultural landscape athome and abroad. It collects the main design theories and relative thoughts about agriculturalurban landscape, and further sums up their concepts, systems and the realms for spatial practicesto perfect its conceptual framework and promote its process; At the practical level, by theresearch of built cases of urban agricultural landscape, this essay summarizes current spatialtypes of its practices and the models and means at the scale of design and planning, by whichagricultural landscape is integrated into urban spaces. In this way, this essay explores thepossibility and potential of its application at different scales and spatial types. Furthermore, basedon the research of Chinese built projects on urban agricultural landscape, this essay analyses theproblems and challenges urban agricultural landscape will face during the process of integrating,and provides advices to promote its application from the perspective of policies, design methods,managements and evaluation systems. Finally, this essay expresses the integral thinking andexploration of urban agricultural landscape by a personal competition on this issue. By theanalysis of the current research situation domestically and internationally, the main purpose ofthis essay is to perfect relative research framework in the field of urban planning and urbanspatial construction, to better guide and promote the development of urban agricultural landscapein Chinese urban space.
