A well-run substation grounding system is an important measure to ensure the equipmentand personal safety. It maintains reliable operation of power systems. At home and abroadthere have been many because of bad grounding system, resulting in equipment damageaccidents. The accidents cause not only huge economic losses but also adverse impact onsociety. Power grid has to invest plenty of money for ground network overhaul and reformsbecause of the rapid expansion of power system capacity, the great increase of ground shortcircuit current and a large number of old ground network and some unqualified. It isnecessary for the power grid grounding technology in-depth study in order to correctapplication of grounding technology and ensure compliance with all safety index ingrounding system after modification.This paper describes what constitutes the substation ground network and the problems inthe aspects of construction and operation that the substation ground network encountered atpresent. Based on the work of substation ground network resistance reduction reforms andexcavation check of the Shantou power grid, it will analyze and compare with the solutionsabout reducing the resistance reforms, the diagnosis and prevention of corrosion, in threeaspects of stability, life, economic benefits. It will put forward the reform program of the besttechnology and economy, considering the construction does not destroy the normal operationand does not change the grounding resistance of the original ground equipment and theoverall environment. The contents of the program include the use of ground network withunequal spacing, using a coating method for protection, choices of electrode material withgood performance, etc.In addition, this paper describes the important parameters of substation ground network,as well as the factors having influence on theirs. In order to ensure safe operation of thesubstation ground network, the measures to prevent corrosion of ground network will be putforward, through the analysis of the influence factors of ground network corrosion and thesoil of the grounding conductor corrosion.
