Belt drive system are an effective means for power transmission, belt drive system offerthe advantage of light weight, low cost, low noise level and high transmission efficiency. Andmulti-rib belt is one of the highest efficiency methods in the belt drive system, and is widelyused in the transport and lots of industrial machinery.On the one hand, in order to get a reliable and long-life drive system, we must layout thebelt drive system in a reasonable manner, detailed analyze the whole belt drive system, knowall the possible failure modes, and balance it carefully in design to avoid every potentialfailure modes. On the other hand, even if the drive system can avoid potential failure modeand can meet the requirements of design life, but such as noise and vibration of belt drivesystems are also disturbing issues.For the belt drive system of engine, to get low vibration and good reliability of thesystem, the key is the right design and the use of the automatic tensioner.This paper based on the above issues, firstly introduces and summarizes theexperimental and theoretical research by domestic and foreign researchers in engine frontaccessory drive vibration control. Then, regarding to the vibration of the engine frontaccessory drive system problem, this paper consider the multiple factors which affect thestatic design result, such as the layout, work area of the tensioner etc., and use the MatlabGui software for the visual design, which greatly increase the accuracy and speed of thewhole design. Model the hysteresis characteristics of the tensioner, and put the modeling intothe calculation of belt drive systems, this paper further researches the tensioner hysteresischaracteristic’s affect to a typical system’s dynamic performance. Indicate the experimentalresearch method of the FEAD system and eventually experimental verified the accuracy ofthe mode which is mentioned previously. At last, based on a typical example, point out thetensioner performance parameters’ affect to the FEAD system, optimize the tensionerperformance parameters, optimize the matching performance between the tensioner and theFEAD system, and improve the performance of the FEAD system.
