Engine front end accessory drive system is an important dynamic system in car, It through belt transfer the power of the engine to the accessories of the car. Performance of engine front end accessory drive system directly affect the performance of the car. This paper mainly study the static and dynamic characteristics of the system, the paper contains :1. To understand the kinds of tensioner in the engine front end accessory drive system; Mainly introduced the automatic tensioner which frequently used in the system, including automatic tensioner roles in system, structure composition, working principle, location identification and performance parameters, etc. In the performance parameters of the tensioner, introduced the spring stiffness, damping coefficient and the tensioner torque.2. To introduce the arrangement principles of engine front end accessory drive system and optimization. Attachment layout principles of the system are the basic principles which we needs to follow when design the system layout, main including pulley Angle, pulley diameter and pulley position and alignment metric four aspects. In the meantime, this paper also put forward some measures to optimize the system, including add idler, adopt automatic tensioner and OAP device.3. Mainly introduced the static design methods of the engine front end accessory drive system, including belt length calculation, belt tension calculation, belt wedges number determination, belt spans natural frequency calculation and tensioner torque calculation. These theories provide the basis of the design and development for the engine front end accessory drive system. Through an engine front end engine accessory drive system as an example, calculation and analysis on the system layout and static characteristics.4. To introduce the engine front end accessory drive system dynamic characteristic test, to understand Rotec test equipment and test principles, etc. Mainly introduced the engine front end accessory drive system dynamic characteristic test projects, including wheel Angle fluctuation, belt- wheel slip rate, tensioner Angle fluctuation and belt transverse vibration and so on. Then, through an engine front end accessory drive system dynamic test for instance, analytically, the dynamic testing parameters of the system can satisfy the requirements of engineering. Finally, belt creep is studied the influence on the system dynamic characteristics, belt creep, slip ratio and the belt span transverse vibration relative to creep before were bigger.
