This paper introduced the status of urban traffic signal control, the basic theory of trafficflow, the basic parameters and evaluation of traffic signal control, elaborated timing signalcontrol and sensing signal control method, a brief overview of traffic flow forecasting methodsby BP neural network and traffic simulation software VISSIM.Designed the induction logic rule control for city primary road intersection, DesignedVisVAP-VISSIM-MATLAB combined with inductive control simulation platform for singleintersection, with the help of VisVAP to write the VAP language and COM interface technology,which realized the simulation of timing control and actuated control on a single intersection.Then compared and analysised the two signal control results the realization of the simulationof timing control and actuated control.Proposed traffic flow prediction method based on BP neural network. On this basis,established the maximum capacity of adaptive control optimization model and gived solvingmethods. Designed real-time control platform based on VISSIM-MATLAB simulationprocesses.Finally compared timing control, sensor signal control and adaptive control to simulationresults at different arriving rates, which show that sensor control, adaptive traffic signal controlto bring good benefits than the timing signal under the conditions of vehicle arrival rate is small.With the increase in the arrival rate actuated signal control, timing control and adaptive signalcontrol method works gradually close, but results obtained by adaptive signal control methodstill better than the timing signal control.
