In China the traffic accidents are more and more with car ownershipcontinuously increased rapidly. Our country are mainly flat cross roads, so the sidecollision in the largest share of traffic accident, especially for cars, car body side ismainly thin plates welded together, which is the most weak place in car body, so oncethe car have side collision and the side does not have enough space to take up theinterior living space, the vehicle driving personnel may easily hit by the side surroundparts extrusion to cause serious harm. In side surround parts, B pillar is the mainstress components when side impact occurs and opposite the body. Many scholarsstudies found that B pillar parts can directly reflect the side impact damage degree ofthe vehicle driving personnel form intrusion form, intrusion amount and intrusionspeed. So through the study of B pillar’s three security index, to develop a kind of Bpillar of maximum protective performance of occupant safety so as to improvevehicle side impact safety will has the vital significance.This article topic is MDB side impact safety, by orthogonal virtual experimentand LS-DYNA solution to optimize the B pillar structure parameters to improve thevehicle side impact safety. Firstly, create MDB side impact simulation model inHyperMesh and import K file in LS-DYNA to solve; Then analysis results in premiseof trusted from intrusion form,intrusion amount and intrusion speed.Then on the basisof B pillar insufficient and passenger damage characteristics,do significance analysisby orthogonal test of influence factors and make further optimization design forsignificant factors and determine the optimal design by matrix analysis; Finally in thevalidation test get B pillar waist line intrusion amount reduced by35.647%, intrusionspeed35.046%, and the intrusion form in agree with the ideal type.Research results show that by orthogonal design B pillar parameters to improveB pillar crashworthiness is a simple and feasible method and B pillar safety indexvalues get a great improvement. The study ideas on improving the B pillarcrashworthiness and vehicle side impact safety provides a certain reference.
