Electricity generation from solar thermal energy can be a useful alternative concerningfossil fuel conservation as well as CO2emission reduction. parabolic trough technology isthe most mature one among various types of solar thermal technologies, this form oftechnology has gone commercialized. The subject of this research stems from one of thedemonstration project proposals which concerns building a1MW parabolic trough solarpower plant near Liangzi Lake, Wuhan.In this thesis, a typical process of one dimensional steam turbine flow path design wasanalyzed first, then an optimized design method was proposed. The new design process wasrealized in Borland Delphi based on object oriented programming paradigm and MVCsoftware architecture pattern, forming a practical and user friendly design software named―STFPD (Solar Turbine Flow Path Design)’, the results were compared with design datafrom an existing25MW condensing steam turbine. Furthermore, several cases were studiedand compared regarding the design schemes of power block for1MW Liangzi Lakeparabolic trough solar thermal power plant by STFPD. Thereby a conclusion of features formegawatt level solar thermal specialized steam turbines was drawn.
